Longtime supporter of women’s advocacy campaigns, Reese Witherspoon has always had in her heart the ability to know what matters most to women. Taking this passion to another level, she recently teamed up with Otter Media for an exciting new venture.
Hello Sunshine is a media company that will focus on sharing content centered on telling female-driven stories. Hello Sunshine will not only create, but also discover, powerful items by and for women across various social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Throughout her life, Witherspoon has had a desire to tell women’s stories using authenticity mixed with humor, which is what ultimately sparked the idea for the company. Additionally, she will be bringing her current production company Pacific Standard into the mix in the hopes that it will help elevate and support female storytelling.
Explaining the catalyst for the kinds of projects she takes on, Witherspoon states that, “So often, I’m the only woman on a set full of men.” She is seeking to turn that around.
Pacific Standard, which will function as a subsidiary of Hello Sunshine, is involved in bringing to life Liane Moriarty’s novel Big Little Lies on HBO. It is a seven-part mystery/drama that explores themes of domestic violence, relationships and motherhood. Oscar winner Witherspoon stars in the series alongside Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley.
