Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is funding a screenwriter’s lab specifically for women over 40. Penned Writer’s Lab, the mission is to “provide opportunities for females over the age of 40,” as those opportunities have proved to be very hard to find. Plans for the lab were unveiled at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Streep’s involvement also was announced. In April, Streep participated in a panel called “Story Powers: Three Great Women in Film,” where she shared her thoughts on women having a much harder time breaking into the film industry than their male counterparts. Star-studded producers and writers have already signed on as mentors with the program, including Caroline Kaplan of “Boyhood” and Kirsten Smith of “Legally Blonde.”
